Performing is essential to complete a dancer’s training. Many local dance schools don’t have performances for their students due to issues such as expense and time. We feel that performing is what gives our students a goal and makes coming to class every week have meaning. Performing is optional but most of our student’s cannot wait to hear our show theme and find out what music and costume their teacher has selected for the annual June production. We are currently working on our June production which will be a dance adaptation of “Beauty and the Beast. “
Along with this yearly production, Kirkpatrick’s is proud to announce a special group of performers called “Dance Express.” This group of 35+ dancers ranges in age from 8-18 years and they are invited by staff members to join this class which consists of an extra class per week to learn dances for special events that take place throughout the year. Dance Express has been donating their talent since the 1990s. Our performance team students have been to New York City to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Golden State Warriors Halftime (2008, 2009 and soon March of 2010). We also have been invited each year to perform in the Burlingame Avenue Holiday Tree Lighting, the Downtown San Mateo Tree Lighting, the Downtown Redwood City Holiday Celebration and the San Mateo County Fair. What really makes it special is performing for our local senior citizens at Sunrise Assisted Living in Belmont and San Mateo, Atria San Mateo, Hyatt Palo Alto Senior Home and many more. Seniors who cannot get out to see dance are so appreciative of our dancers coming to visit them. This is also a valuable lesson for our dancers to see that they have talent to share and smiles to leave behind.
